Lion El'Jonson

Overview

Lion El'Jonson is the Primarch of the Dark Angels, the First Legion of the Space Marines, and one of the twenty legendary sons of the Emperor of Mankind. Raised on the chaos-corrupted death world of Caliban, the Lion became a peerless warrior and tactician who led his legion through the Great Crusade and the Horus Heresy. After being critically wounded in battle with his fallen adoptive father Luther—which destroyed Caliban—Jonson slept for ten millennia within the depths of The Rock, the Dark Angels' mobile fortress-monastery. He finally awakened in the late 41st Millennium during the Arks of Omen crisis, defeating and banishing the daemon primarch Angron. In Dawn of War IV, the Lion appears near the climax of the campaign, bringing the weight of a demigod to the war on Kronus.

Created by the Emperor through genetic engineering, Jonson was scattered across the galaxy by the Chaos Gods and landed on Caliban, a world overrun by chaos beasts. He survived alone for a decade in the wild before being discovered by the knight Luther, who named him 'Lion, son of the forest.' Jonson led the Great Crusade's First Legion with cold tactical brilliance, earning a reputation for discipline and the use of forbidden technologies. During the Horus Heresy, he was delayed returning to Terra. Upon returning to Caliban, he found Luther had turned traitor. Their climactic duel shattered the planet; Jonson was gravely wounded and taken into stasis by the Watchers in the Dark. He awakened in M41, reuniting the Dark Angels and confronting the Fallen while battling Chaos across the galaxy.
